Tattoo Artists Cover Breast Cancer Survivors’ Scars With Breathtaking Artwork.

These images are not meant to be salacious or lewd, these images and this story speak to the courage of breast cancer survivors and their incredible struggle. Surgical removal of all or part of a breast, can be a necessary and life-saving procedure for those battling breast cancer, and the physical scars left behind often pale in comparison to the deeper psychological ones. For some women, tattooing their post-mastectomy breasts is a powerful way to reclaim what was lost during their struggle to survive.

A website called P.Ink has helped tattoo artists connect with women who want to tattoo their mastectomy scars. One such tattoo artist, David Allen, had inspiring things to say about the process:

What was clinical became beautiful again… we turned sterile into sensual. We took back control.
